The Great Gatsby- An Inspirational Movie & Soundtrack

After a wonderful Mother's Day celebration with breakfast at a local NJ restaurant, I treated my mom to the much anticipated Great Gatsby. Not only having read the book a grand total of three times in both high school and college, this American classic had some modern twists had some great surprises.

The first surprise was how well the Jay-Z produced sound tack complemented the movie. A few weeks prior to the movie's release I was reading an article on the sound track on paste magazine. The review gave the sound track high scores (especially since Jay-Z produced it) and stated that, Jay-Z has brought in the likes of some very modern popular recording artists, some include: Florence and the Machine, The xx, Gotye, Beyonce, André 3000, Jack White and Lana Del Rey. To read the whole article please click the following link: (http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2013/04/new-trailer-album-tracklist-for-jay-z-produced-gre.html).

Adding a very interesting element to the movie, having Jay-Z produce the sound track and opening the movie with an edgy rap song,  created anticipation for what was yet to come. After seeing Nick Carraway speaking with the psychiatrist and hearing him (though his point of view) the booming stock market, buying a house on Long Island, and having dinner with this cousin Daisy and Tom (who Nick attended Yale with), he has trouble opening up with talk therapy. However, as soon as the psychiatrist suggests writing down the events, that's when he opens up and we can see How Great Jay Gatsby really was. (Another article from Paste Magazine is really relevant:  http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2013/05/the-great-gatsby.html.)

Do you agree that the modern twist Jay-Z sound track brought to the movie or would you have preferred more classical music?  What are some of the other twists that you recognize? Do you agree with them?
