For the past 8 years, every August, Billboard
magazine publishes the top 40 music industry executives under age 40. These
young individuals have an artistic and/or business forward vision to improve
the current industry. (Previous years Billboard published 30 under 30, but they
have decided to expand it to under age 40.) August 2012’s 40 under 40 included A&R executives,
business entrepreneurs, Presidents’ of various record labels, and TV show
hosts, all with their own lists of unique accomplishments.

The next question has to be, what qualifies a music
industry employee to get a nomination? Some
include, must be born after Aug. 3, 1973, birthdates will be confirmed with a driver’s
license, passport, or similar document, “Billboard editors will choose among
the nominees by considering their achievements, both within their company and
the broader industry……..,” (Billboard.com, Billboard Staff, April 25, 2013).
