Big Record Companies vs. Small Record Labels, which is better?

The music industry in general is a very interesting business, partially because it is considered a sub-division of the entertainment industry, and partially because everyone loves music- it’s personal. The average person likes music, certain artist, songs, maybe even gravitates towards a decade. However, why is it that some people work in the music/industry? Create a career out of their talent as a singer/songwriter/musician?

One in site to this question could be how you go about approaching the situation. One suggestion to this issue might be to peruse a job/recording contact at a small record label. Some small record labels could potentially be very profitable, take Fueled by Ramen, for example. Owned partially by Atlantic Records, Fueled by Ramen, is the American record label who signed and mentored Fun.. With other very successful artists/groups, such as Paramore and twenty one pilots, Fueled by Ramen, is the perfect example of how a small label can become successful when singing the right talent and hiring the right staff. (For more information on Fueled by Ramen, please feel free to check out their website http://www.fueledbyramen.com/).

general question(s) to my readers, if the goal is to concentrate on the entertainment for a career for a college major, is it a smarter to start off at a small company so you can learn the whole industry/business? Why or why not? Would you be open to this?
