#SharkNado!

“A freak hurricane hits Los Angeles, causing man-eating sharks to be scooped up in water spouts and flooding the city with shark-infested seawater. Surfer and bar-owner Fin (Ziering) sets out with his friends Baz (Jaason Simmons) and Nova (Scerbo) to rescue his estranged wife April (Reid) and teenage daughter Claudia (Aubry Peeples). He succeeds, but April's boyfriend is eaten by the sharks. The group meets up with Matt (Chuck Hittinger), the adult son of Fin and April, who is in flying school. They decide to try to stop the threat of the incoming "sharknadoes" by tossing bombs into them from helicopters,” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharknado).

“As Nova prepares to throw one of the bombs, she falls out of the helicopter and directly into a shark's mouth. Matt, who has fallen for her, is heartbroken. Baz is also lost in the storm. After Matt lands on the ground, a flying shark plummets toward the remaining members of the group. Fin jumps into its mouth with a chainsaw and cuts his way out. He emerges carrying an unconscious but miraculously unharmed Nova. Matt is reunited with Nova and Fin gets back together with April,”(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharknado). [5]

With all of America being fascinated by Sharknado, the Syfy movie has been a hit all summer. With its own hash tag, people have been facebooking and twitting about it as they can’t get enough!

A Link to the trailer is below:

The trailer sparks an interested question, is this movie too violent for TV? That is a very good question and point. I think that this might be slightly more violent than other Syfy movies that have been produced and aired on their station.

However, this is an extremely popular debate topic. After reading about this issue and viewing the trailer, which side do you take? Is it too violent for TV? Yes or No?

Lady Gaga- Much Anticipated Album out This November

Lady Gaga is set to perform live at this year's MTV Video Music Awards in New York on August 25th. According to MTV, she will perform the first single off her upcoming album, ARTPOP, out on November 11th. The New Immortals: Lady Gaga

The performance at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn will be the singer's first since she suffered a hip injury earlier this year, forcing her to cancel 21 dates on her Born This Way tour. The VMA set will also mark the first performance of the debut single from ARTPOP,” (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/lady-gaga-to-debut-new-single-live-at-mtv-video-music-awards-20130725#ixzz2a6ZsQk4d, Coulehan, E, July 2013).

This very exciting album release is setting a trend for the music industry- artists who have been taking a break from recording a CD and touring have been coming back and recording new CDs. Other artists who have also accomplished this include, Fiona Apple and Robyn. In your overall observations of the music industry, is this a trend, along with scouting new talent? Which method do you believe is more effective- having former recording artists who have already established a fan base-or the opposite- it is better to introduce new artist? Why or why not?

The Way Way Back- to a time when were all kids

“THE WAY, WAY BACK is the funny and poignant coming of age story of 14-year-old Duncan's (Liam James) summer vacation with his mother, Pam (Toni Collette), her overbearing boyfriend, Trent (Steve Carell), and his daughter, Steph (Zoe Levin). Having a rough time fitting in, the introverted Duncan finds an unexpected friend in gregarious Owen (Sam Rockwell), manager of the Water Wizz water park. Through his funny, clandestine friendship with Owen, Duncan slowly opens up to and begins to finally find his place in the world - all during a summer he will never forget’” (http://www.foxsearchlight.com/post/3694/the-way-way-back-official-hd-trailer/, 2013).

This movie takes adults back to a time when we were all kids and when most all of us where trying to find our place in life. Summer’s a child’s favorite time, to play with friends, to rest their minds from their school work, and of course to go to the beach. However, Duncan can’t seem to have fun at Trent’s beach house, and instead develops and improves his fragile relationship with his mother. Sometimes we find our best solution in the most unlikely place. This movie teaches taught me, to maintain an open mind, as hard as it may be, you might see a great solution or learn a lesson.

Kanye’s West’s new Album Review- Is it a keeper?

Like most things in life, when I listened to it, there were some songs, I loved and others I wasn’t that crazy about. However, there is one song that has a lot of people blogging, twitting and commenting- “Black Skinheads.” It is very similar to a song “Elephant,” by Tame Impala, the two songs have so many similarities, fans for both artists are getting them confused.

“If you thought that nothing could get better than Kanye’s “Black Skinhead” mixed with Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus,” think again. D.C.-based producer Nate Belasco perfected the formula for another solid club banger when he paired the new Kanye track with Tame Impala’s stomping and thumping single,  ‘Elephant,’” (http://www.pastemagazine.com/blogs/awesome_of_the_day/2013/07/hear-glorious-mashup-of-kanyes-black-skinhead-with-tame-impalas-elephant.html, July 10, 2013, Lori Keong).

Do you agree with this statement or do you think the songs sound different?
